My Legacy Dilapidated walls With putrid smelling halls Decadence buries me Within my poverty What joy a gust of air To come out of nowhere! And sweeten up my breath Remove this smell of death Or if the sun breaks through Bringing its golden hue To brighten up my room Dispel this cloud of doom The whisper of the rain Does much to ease the pain Those kind words I don't hear The calming of my fear While passing cars below And people I don't know Keep me closely in touch The world I miss so much! Into myself I hide Imprisoned by my pride That they would make me less Than I'd care to confess But I shall prove my worth! My short stay on this earth I'll leave my legacy My paper, pen, and me! The me they did not seek The words I could not speak The love I could not feel Somehow, I'll make it real! My love will come in time I'll meet her in a rhyme She'll read my words with joy Then say, "I love that boy!" She'll swear her life began When first she heard that man I'll be her closest friend She'll love me till her end I hope someday she'll find This love I left behind And that my love can be What hers has been for me! |
